Male Breast Reduction: Post Surgery Instructions And Maintenance

Gynecomastia or male breast reduction surgery is used to reduce the size of men’s breasts, if they are unnaturally large, and appear female-like.

There are two popular methods of male breast reduction surgery but they should be duly considered by your physician first, since they depend on individual breast sizes. The two methods basically use tumescent power liposuction to reduce the excess fat deposit. Now, in case of individuals with larger breasts, an additional incision is made around the areola. This will reduce any glandular tissues that may be present in the area.

After the operation, you may have to stay the night. A compression bandage is to be worn: this supports the wound and leads to healing. There is possibility of loss of fluids, so your doctor may use a drain to help facilitate this. Medication that is prescribed needs to be taken, since it is generally antibacterial, and can protect against infection.

There will be a feeling of exhaustion, and the area would experience pain. You should not sleep on your stomach for several weeks post-op. Also, lifting heavy objects, or doing physical activity is to be strictly avoided. Bruising and swelling may occur, but disappears easily. Importantly, you will be shown how to change your dressing so that you can be discharged, and only need to come back on a follow up visit. You can be assured of a new and improved look, as long as you follow your physician’s instructions.
